VICTOOOORIA!

A few weekends ago we had the short but totally sweet opportunity to go on an adventure to Victoriaaaah! None of us had been, and we all had high hopes for this mysterious and beautiful island. We were heading over to visit some fellow tall bicycle lovers and attend a Where Are You Go screening! We stayed with some really lovely people, and met some hardcore Wink fans. One girl we met told us that one of her favourite songs of all time is the "Bmx Bmx Bmx!" song by Weak and Determined, as featured in a 15 second clip in the Winking Circle. She wet her pants when Benny told her that there was a full version out there, and she kissed Christian's toenails when he revealed that he was, in fact, a Weak and Determined original. This is actually how excited she was.

Highlights of the trip with photos to follow:

Ben barging in on a helpless, sleeping baby.
Almost forgetting Stephen at the ferry terminal magazine rack.
Eating delicious burritos with good company.
"The Pepper Game" invented by Stephen Huizenga.
Jordan elbowing a man in the face who was fixing his glasses.

Good Times in the Beetle

I recently found this drawing in an old sketchbook. Seeing it made me miss my old beetle. I feel that car was really apart of me. I knew how its brain worked, and if it was having a bad day. We had to work together to get anywhere. Mostly I drove the car alone, but it was always nice to have someone to share the experience with.

One of my new favourite illustrators

I recently received a fantastic, short illustrated story from Shelby Huffman. The illustrations are super stylish and amazing. Thanks Shelby!

we were once kids.

Jordan and I as kids.

I spent my day working at the shop trying to perfect the art of Tig welding. While working in my own space my mind often wanders. It is amazing, I can be super focused on what I am doing and still think about other things. Anyways, today I was thinking about what it was like to be a kid. How important simple things were; like Halloween candy, comic books, and Lego. It is amazing to think about how much value a child puts on a few tiny chocolate bars, a package of three half sized licorice sticks, and an air filled chip bag.

A summer night with my lady and my bike.

A friend recently sent me this photo of Jordan and I cruising on my motorbike. It was taken on our our way home from the beach. The photo made me miss my bike, and the adventures that we had on it. Sadly my bike sits in the back yard uninsured. My bicycle will do until the spring.

Summer......

Summer has come to an end. It always feels weird when fall suddenly takes over. Seasons are so important because they split up the year allowing us to look back on what we acomplished. For Jordan and I, this past summer was very eventful. We packed the four months with as much as we probably could.

Basement Shows!

Over the past few months we have had a few basement shows in my house/ church basement. First we had a folk show, which was really nice. Next we had a punk show, which we thought was awesome, but the neighbors didn't. I guess you cant have a punk show without the cops showing up.

Garden-Boarding

Check out our latest project. Garden-Boarding!

An art blog that we both follow was hosting a build your own skateboard project. The goal was to build a skateboard out of found or recycled materials. I like skateboarding and we both like doing hilarious projects together so this is what we came up with. You can check out the video at: http://www.vimeo.com/14876561

Back to Cool

It is back to school time for me. This is my first year of my declared major: sculpture. I'm fairly certain that I'm going to switch my major to drawing & illustration, but for this year I'd like to run with sculpture, taking advantage of its interdisciplinary nature. I'm technically doing a double major right now in both sculpture and drawing because I squeezed into two core classes, which I'm discovering why that is not advised. Two consecutive, six-hour classes would suck, if I didn't love them so much.

RAYN FORST

Not even twenty minutes from our house, we went to a rain forest to have a little hike, lap up some glacier river water, and swing from vines and release our inner Tarzans.

It was a nice hike. I was pretty afraid that a mountain lion was going to pounce on us, but luckily.. only one did. Christian wrestled with it for a good twenty minutes before he crushed it's skull with his bare hands and then immediately harvested the organs and skinned it, dried the meat and made me a nice fall coat. Pretty good day I'd say.

Starfish & Seafinks

Christian and I were itching to go adventuring the other night, so we rode our bikes down to the ocean, climbed down over some rocks and plopped our feet in the chilly water. What we found was amazing, incredible, shocking, hilarious, and cool.

We found out that Christian is actually a SeaFink. The lesser known twin brother of Rat Fink, the LandFink.

We also found... giant purple starfish! Christian was scared to touch them, and he was also crying because his feet were cold, so I plucked some out of the water and introduced myself.

We also saw a teeny tiny little baby jellyfish, that was only slightly bigger than the little jelly in Finding Nemo. AND, we saw multiple seals. I tried to call them over but to no avail, as usual.
It was a good adventure and we caught a stunning sunset over the city on the ride home.

Stay Weird

The other day I was looking through some of Aarons old photos and I found this little gem. Yeah, that's Ben and Will back in the day. It almost brings tears to my eyes. I am truly inspired.

One of my favorite quotes:

It is from a vintage Winking Circle zine. Thanks Torbin Ross and Hillbilly Willy.

Whitecliff Adventures

The past couple of weeks has been pretty hectic for the both of us as we are working on the bike film festival. On Saturday afternoon we finally escaped the city and went down to Whitecliff park to swim in the ocean, jump off some rocks and eat some food with our friends.

We didn't end up finding any cliffs that we could jump off and not splat on the rocks below, but we swam out to the island and tossed watermelon rinds at people swimming anyway.

A True Eccentric

On Friday, Jordan took me on a surprise date to see my hero Buck 65!

You can't tell from this picture, but he's super excited to be standing next to Jordan.
(Also, they were holding hands)

You know how some people say that every genius is a bit quirky and weird? Well, Buck 65 is one of those guys. I think he is the only rapper that can dance like a boneless Sasquatch, and rap about how nice he is and still be cool. The show was truly amazing. After a double encore Rich jump into the crowd, giving everyone hugs, answering questions, and making hilarious faces in every photo that was taken of him.

Most people filtered out after the concert, so about ten of us stayed behind to talk to him and listen to his funny stories. Jordan and Buck talked about Sufjan Stevens, and then before she got her picture taken with him she asked what kind of face he was going to make so she could be prepared and he asked if she had any requests. She said that she'd like to be surprised, so... the first picture is his face of choice.

The Jordan Vulture

I came across this two headed photo of Jordan on her computer and for some reason, it reminded me of vulture wings. So I added the vulture head and wala, a masterpiece, genius I know.

Restaurant Model

Jordan pays the bills by modeling for restaurants' websites!
(It's not as lucrative as it sounds, trust me.)

Masquerade Party

This is a photo of Christian and I at our friend Joseph's masquerade party a few weeks ago. Christian made his mask by melting a cd in my toaster oven and I made mine out of leaves snipped from my landlords' garden.

There were few mask wearers, although Joseph did glue a poker chip and a small piece of construction paper over his left eye with medical tape.

White tires, New Yorker handlebars, and a homemade spider man costume; I used to be cool.
